History

In order to enhance public awareness of the natural world and acknowledge the intrinsic value of plants, animals, minerals, and rocks in human life, as well as to help better science education and address the lack of laboratories in educational institutions, the Natural History Museum was established in 1353 by Dr. Sadruddin Sharifi (Professor Faculty of Agriculture of Shiraz University) and relocated to its current 10-hectare site in 1359. This building has two floors and features a large dome-shaped central hall and four side wings. It is renowned as one of the most distinctive and scientifically advanced museums in Iran due to its unique architectural design and adherence to safety protocols for exhibits. Initially, departments of zoology, botany, geology, and anatomy were established and inaugurated. The departments' activities are carried out in three main areas: education, research and demonstration. These departments expanded quickly with the hiring of specialists in those fields. In 2013, another collection, the Technology Museum was added to the Museum of Natural History. The electrical industry museum and the telecommunication museum were opened in this complex in subsequent years. Presently, the Astronomy Department, the Museum of Nations, and the Aerospace Museum are nearing completion.
